Ferguson Rotich put up an outstanding performance as he cruised into the 800 meters final with the fastest run of the semi-final on Sunday, setting himself up as a strong contender to succeed David Rudisha as the new king of the event.
Rotich, a World 800m bronze medallist, ran the fastest time as Kenyans easily secured qualification in the men’s 800m semi-final. Rotich was the first Kenyan of the trio to get t a comfortable victory in 1:44.1, the fastest time outside of an Olympic final. He represented Kenya at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics in 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2018 and was a gold medallist in the 4×800 meters relay at the 2014 IAAF World Relays at the last Olympic game in Rio, he came 5th in the 4x 800m relay but with his stunning performance at this year’s Tokyo Olympics, Rotich is heading for the Gold medal and there is no stopping him.
